Baby Milestones - to four months
Mums sometimes say their babies dislike their time on their tummy immensely, but most baby experts say it's very important for development.
Start tummy time as early as you think your baby can handle it. A new baby’s head grows quite quickly in the first few months of their little life, if your baby’s neck muscles don't get stronger during this period, tummy time will be much more difficult. Here are a few points your may consider to help your baby during this frustrating time for your baby:
-
First week of tummy time– by simply resting your baby on your tummy will help your baby’s neck muscles get stronger
-
The second week – Keep your baby company by placing her on the floor on something soft and cozy, you should try this for 30 seconds at a time, every second counts
-
Beyond the third week – By this time your baby should realise that this is simply another way to sit, and she should be getting used to it. Put your baby into this position as often as possible, even while ironing her clothes. To keep her interested you could try putting her favourite blanket or teething toy within reach. You should try this a few minutes a day until she reaches 30 minutes when you can define her as an expert
