Q. It may be time to wean my 15-month-old baby off the baby bottle she has come to love so much. At the moment my baby has one baby bottle with baby formula in the morning, one before her fist sleep and one at night, right before she goes to bed. So, what do I do? Will I know if she gets enough food?
You are lucky at this point, you've weaned her off most of the baby bottles. Making it more difficult, however, is that the last three are "comfort" bottles, ones she takes when she's easing out of and into sleep.
As a mum or dad you will need to give her some comfort of your own. When she wakes up and before she goes to sleep, do lots of cuddling while she drinks from a sippy cup. At night, make it part of your bedtime routine, along with a warm bath, stories, and other soothing rituals. Also, don’t forget to add brushing teeth to the routine also – but try using a natural baby toothpaste without nasty chemicals in particular SLS.
As for how much you baby will need: 450mls to 680ml over the whole day is plenty (important: whole milk only; no low-fat until after age 2). If you have trouble getting your baby to drink that much from the sippy cup, offer her yogurt, or cheese.
